THE PROGRAM
The Chinese Employees Association of Los Angeles (CEALAC) is establish an annual scholarship program to assist members’ children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
This scholarship program will be administered by the CEALAC Scholarship Committee. The committee consists of CEALAC Board Members. CEALAC acknowledges the financial hardship many of our members face each day. Attending college should not be one of them.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT OVERVIEW
These are the general criteria used to determine whether a person is qualified to apply for scholarship. The Applicants to the CEALAC Scholarship Program must be –
AWARDS
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $300 award. Up to 3 awards will be granted each year. Awards may be renewed up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned. Whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study, continued membership of the student’s parent at CEALAC and the continuation of the program by CEALAC.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Application
Interested members must complete the application, email the application to scholarship@cealac.org, and mail the original application along with a current, complete transcript of grades to CEALAC postmarked no later than 12/29/2017. Grade reports are not acceptable. Online transcripts must display student name, school name, grade and credit hours earned for each course, and term in which each course was taken. Applicants will receive acknowledgement of receipt of their application. If an acknowledgement card is not received within three weeks, applicants may call the Committee to verify that the application has been received.
Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all questions as completely as possible. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by the CEALAC Scholarship Committee.
Application Outline:
The personal essay will focus on the applicant’s achievement, plans for the future, academic and career goals, and other significant events in their life. The essay should be no more than two pages in length, double-spaced, and with a 12-point font size.
SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances.
Selection of recipients is made by the CEALAC Scholarship Committee. IN no instance does any CEALAC officer play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Applicants will be notified in January. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirement.
PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP
Payments/checks are presented to the recipients in full every year during the CEALAC’s Chinese New Year Celebration in February. Checks will be mailed to each recipient’s home address should the recipient be not available to receive the check at the New Year Celebration.
OBLIGATIONS
Recipients have no obligation to CEALAC. They are, however, required to notify the Scholarship Committee of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information and to send a complete transcript when requested.

CEALAC reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.
